Dental Insurance at Tencza Family Dental

Dental insurance is a great way to pay for dental procedures. If you have health insurance, you usually have the option to add dental coverage, too. When scheduling your appointment, one of the most important things to know is which insurance providers we work with and what your plan covers.

We are in-network with Delta Dental, Cigna Dental Insurance, Blue Cross Dental.

What do dental plans typically cover?

All dental plans are different, and the amount of coverage you receive will depend on the health plan your choose. Your dental insurance will typically cover routine and essential services and a portion of significant services like oral surgery and restorative procedures. Most dental plans do not cover cosmetic procedures that are not medically necessary.

Preventive Services

Dental benefits typically cover preventative measures such as oral exams, cleanings, and X-rays for individuals and families. Most dental health plans will limit the number of routine visits to two per year or every six months. You should check your dental plan to see if the plan covers preventive care visits per calendar year or on a rolling basis.

Oral Surgery and Major Services

Sometimes, your dental care needs go beyond preventive care, and this is where dental insurance benefits can make a big difference in the cost you are required to pay out-of-pocket.

Services such as dental implants, tooth extractions, and restorative procedures like fillings and crowns are typically covered by insurance at a percentage of the total cost. So, for example, if you have a $1,000 procedure and your dental plan covers 50%, you would be responsible for paying $500 out-of-pocket.

Before performing any major treatments, our team will contact your dental insurance company with you and help you understand what coverage you have and what portion of the cost, if any, you are responsible for.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Dental insurance plans usually do not cover dental care that is not medically necessary. This includes cosmetic services such as professional teeth whitening, veneers, and bonding.

If you are interested in cosmetic treatments, our team can help you understand your financing options and find a plan that works for you.

Using Dental Insurance Plans to Pay for Treatment

If you plan to use a dental benefit plan to help cover dental care costs, here are a few things you should know:

  • For treatments covered by insurance, you will be required to pay your deductible, if applicable, and any co-payments for the procedure.
  • Dental insurance plans frequently have waiting periods of several months after you first join up for coverage. During this time, your insurance provider will not pay for any procedures. However, we can create a treatment plan that considers your waiting period for procedures that are not medically necessary.
  • Please bring your insurance card with you to your appointment to help us verify your insurance benefits before your appointment. We will make a copy of it for our records.
